What parking in the San Fernando Valley
actually looks like

The Valley is big enough that no single description fits it. What its events do have in common is a shortage of the one thing that makes valet easy — a large lot next to the door — and a wide variety of reasons for that shortage.

Ventura Boulevard, end to end

From Studio City to Woodland Hills, the boulevard is one long stretch of narrow frontages, shared rear lots, restricted left turns and traffic that does not pause for your event. Almost no address on it can absorb guest cars at the curb. The plan that works is an arranged lot within a short walk or a short cart ride, a continuous flow at the door, and enough attendants that the boulevard never has a car parked in the traffic lane waiting for one.

The hillside streets, north and south

Above Ventura on the south side and up into the hills on the north, the streets narrow, the driveways get steep and short, and a fire lane can disappear behind eight guest cars in twenty minutes. These addresses are where a valet operation earns its keep, and where an understaffed one turns into a neighborhood complaint. We survey the actual street and tell you what the block can hold.

Warner Center and the corporate blocks

Warner Center parks in structures, and structures have clearances, gate hours, validation systems and a security office with its own opinion. Corporate events here fail on logistics rather than on space: the gate closes at a time nobody checked, or the clearance won't take the shuttle. We settle those details with building management before the date instead of discovering them at 6 p.m.

Three cities and a county in one valley

Sherman Oaks, Encino, Reseda, Woodland Hills, Tarzana, Studio City and North Hollywood are City of Los Angeles, where LAMC 103.203 requires a written valet operator permit and every attendant carries a Board-issued card. Burbank and Glendale are separate cities with their own permits and their own departments, and San Fernando is another one. There are unincorporated county pockets too. A permit from one of these is worth nothing in the next, so we check your address rather than assuming.

Most of it is City of Los Angeles, but Burbank, Glendale and San Fernando are separate incorporated cities, and there are unincorporated county pockets in between. Two addresses fifteen minutes apart can sit under different codes, different departments and different fees.

City of Los Angeles addresses need the LA operator permit

Where an address falls inside the City of Los Angeles, LAMC 103.203 requires a written Valet Parking Operator permit for anyone moving vehicles on the public right-of-way, and LAMC 103.203.1 requires each attendant to hold and visibly display a Board-issued card. We hold both.

Burbank, Glendale and the City of San Fernando each run their own permit through their own department. There is no regional permit that covers them, and a permit from one is worthless in the next.

Questions the San Fernando Valley hosts actually ask

You personally do not, but your valet company does. the San Fernando Valley is inside the City of Los Angeles, and LAMC 103.203 requires the operator to hold a written Valet Parking Operator permit whenever vehicles are moved on or over a public right-of-way. If your address sits inside a designated Valet Parking Residential Sensitive Zone, an additional One-Day Permit from the Board of Police Commissioners is required. We check your specific address and file whatever applies.
Yes. LAMC 103.203.1 requires each valet parking attendant to hold a written permit from the Board and to visibly display a valid Board-issued identification card while working. It also bars anyone convicted in the previous seven years of a felony or of an offense involving violence, dishonesty, automobile theft, automobile vandalism, reckless driving or driving under the influence. If a company cannot show you those cards, they are not permitted to work a the San Fernando Valley street.
We carry general liability and garage keeper's liability coverage, and we can name your venue, building or HOA as an additional insured on request. For reference, the City of Los Angeles sets the floor for permitted operators at $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate in general liability, $250,000 per occurrence and $1,000,000 aggregate in garage keeper's liability, and $1,000,000 in vehicle liability, with deductibles capped at $5,000 per occurrence. We send the certificate before your event, not on the day.
No, and this is the single most common misunderstanding we correct on a first call. Most of the Valley is City of Los Angeles — Encino, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Reseda, Tarzana, Woodland Hills, North Hollywood and Van Nuys among them. But Burbank, Glendale and the City of San Fernando are separate incorporated cities with their own municipal codes and their own valet permits, and there are unincorporated county pockets as well. The rules change at a line you cannot see from the car.
Tell us the street address and we'll tell you — that's a phone call, not a consulting fee. The San Fernando Valley covers many separate jurisdictions, and the boundary rarely follows anything you can see from the car. We check the address before we quote a plan that involves the public street, because a permit issued by the wrong city is the same as no permit at all.
We are based here. Our office is in Encino and our crews live and work across the Valley, which is why our arrival times are realistic rather than optimistic and why we already know what most of these streets do on a Saturday night. It also means a Valley job is a short run for us rather than a trip, and that shows up in the quote.
It depends on the guest count, the arrival window and, above all, the distance from the drop-off point to where cars are parked. A guest list arriving over two hours needs fewer attendants than the same list arriving in twenty minutes. We size the crew from your actual arrival curve and put it in writing in the quote. For a weekend event in peak season, two to four weeks gives us room to run the site survey and file any permit your address requires. We do take same-day and next-day bookings when a crew is available, but a rushed booking limits the permit options, so booking earlier is genuinely cheaper and calmer.
Full-service event valet runs $600 to $3,500 for the whole event — a total event price, not a per-car and not a per-guest price. The starting package is $600 for four hours with three uniformed attendants, up to 50 guests, and every booking has a 4-hour minimum with a 3-attendant minimum crew, which makes $600 the lowest price for any event. Above that, the crew grows by one attendant per 15 cars. The formula is attendants × hours × $50 — $50 is the hourly rate per attendant, and it does not change with the city, the day of the week or the type of event.
